Fancy Nancy
Seven of the top 15 books on the Booksense.com bestseller list for children’s illustrated books reveal a girly girl named Fancy Nancy. In vibrant pen and ink watercolor illustrations, they tell the tales of this little girl who loves frills and feathers but lives with a very plain family. She teaches her family how to be fancy too and they enjoy a festive night out at the pizzeria. A messy mishap puts a check on Nancy’s exuberance, but her sympathetic family and a comforting bedtime routine smoothes everything out. Jane O’connor, author of the Nina Ballerina series, gives us a charming story of dress-up and cozy family love with an endearing heroine who enjoys and loves sharing glamour. This cheery, colorful book with some fancy vocabulary words, will appeal to the princesses in our homes.
Quick Dinner Idea
You’re home late, and need to be out the door in 50 minutes for a parent –teacher conference. The kids are hungry and the hamburger is a frozen hunk.
This problem is history thanks to a tip from lunchinabox.net. Put your fresh ground beef in a freezer bag and roll it flat before freezing it. You don’t get messy, since it’s in the bag. Take a chopstick or ruler to divide the bag in thirds each way, making nine portions. Freeze it, and the next time you need ground beef, you can easily break off the number of portions needed, and they defrost easily, since they are so thin. You avoid the hotspots and health dangers from defrosting in the microwave.
